Argentina – Messi

The Argentina has already written their name among the world legends. Yesterday in Qatar Argentina won the 2022 Football world cup against the former world champions France. Before anything I want to say my congratulations for the team and my favourite Lionel Messi. In this winning moment there is another person that I remember. That is Diego Maradona! I still remember his cheer for Messi when he debuted in foot ball world cup in 2006.

Diego Maradona

I got to know Lionel Messi in 2010 world cup. Where Argentina lost in quarter final matches to Germany. Since then Messi was a huge part in my football world. So I decided to talk about our new world champions and their history.

The first ever international football match played by Argentinian team was the match against Uruguay in 1902. Then for years Argentina only played against the south American teams. The reason was unknown. In 1928 the Argentinian team went to play the 1928 summer Olympics. It was the team’s first ever international tournament and became runner’s up after being defeated by the Uruguay.

Between 1934 to 1954 Argentina was absent in the world championships. There were various reasons in each time for the national team of Argentina to not to participate in the tournaments in that time period.

In 1978 Argentina hosted the FIFA world cup for the first time and became the second south American nationals to win the world cup in their home country. The winning team was captained by Daniel Passarella, who is considered as one of the greatest defenders of all time. Again in 1986 the world title was taken back by the Argentinian team. It was all thanks to Diego Maradona. It was considered as a controversial goal as Maradona had used his hand before the marking the winning goal.

Since then Argentina had not won a world championship. After 36 years the Argentinian team has been able to claim their title back in the world cup game. Lionel Scaloni was the coach of the winning team. The team members are as follows.

Forwards :- Julián Álvarez, Lionel Messi (captain), Ángel Di María, Ángel Correa, Paulo Dybala, Lautaro Martínez

Midfielders :- Leandro Paredes, Rodrigo De Paul, Marcos Acuña, Exequiel Palacios, Thiago Almada, Papu Gómez, Guido Rodríguez, Alexis Mac Allister, Enzo Fernández

Defenders :- Juan Foyth, Nicolás Tagliafico, Gonzalo Montiel, Germán Pezzella, Cristian Romero, Nicolás Otamendi, Lisandro Martínez, Nahuel Molina

Goalkeepers :- Franco Armani, Gerónimo Rulli, Emiliano Martínez

When we look at the success story of Argentinian team in Football this year there is one person that we see more than anything and he is Lionel Messi.

Lionel Messi

Lionel Andrés Messi was born in 24 June 1987 in Rosario, Santa Fe, Argentina. As a part of hard football loving family Messi developed his passion for the game since he was little. Two of his older brothers also became professional football players. In 2001 the whole family was relocated in Barcelona to help Messi become a professional player.

The silent child worked his way into a top player of the team within the club. Messi debuted in the FIFA world cup tournament in 2006 becoming the youngest player to represent Argentina in a world cup. 2022 world cup was his 6th and final world cup.

He is not only a great football player but also a loving husband and a father. Messi was is a long term relationship with Antonela Roccuzzo, a cousin of his childhood best friend from Rosario. After dating for years the couple tied the knot in 2017. Today the couple has three sons together. Messi holds triple citizenship, as he is a citizen of Argentina, Italy, and Spain.

Messi has involved in charitable events throughout his career. He acts as a UNICEF Goodwill ambassador since 2010. Messi founded his own charitable organisation, the Leo Messi Foundation, which supports access to health care, education, and sport for children.

The physical structure of the body helps Messi to become a better player in the game. Messi who is 1.70 m (5 ft 7 in) tall is a shorter player compared to others. Due to his short stature, Messi has a lower centre of gravity than taller players, which gives him greater agility, allowing him to change direction more quickly and evade opposing tackles. This ability with combines with his significant upper-body strength to become a better player. Messi is a predominantly a left-footed player and he is an accurate free kick and penalty kick taker ranking at 9th place.

Lionel Messi has achieved many rewards in his career. I have mentioned few of them in the following paragraph. But there are many more that I have not mentioned. There is a separate Wikipedia page contributed for his achievements alone. I hit will give you hope that will give you an idea of the measurement of his achievements. IF you do not you can read them here.
